Houndstooth Tales and Tails – The hilarity of everyday life This week, Rose decided that I needed some extra attention when I came home from work each day.  The truth is, she was right, but I was surprised by how affectionate she’s been lately.  It would all be great except for the fact that she’s a lap dog and then some. Owner Yells At Woman Who Broke Into Her Hot Car To Save Dog

By Michelle Spies | August 11, 2021

In 80 degree heat, the temperature inside a parked car can reach 110 degrees in just over 20 minutes. Without water, a dog can suffer heatstroke in that amount of time, which can ultimately be deadly. After a dog spent close to an hour in the back of a parked car in Massachusetts, a witness decided it was time to intervene. Jennifer Williams-Frangie broke into the car so she could air it out and give the dog inside some water. It’s possible this action saved the dog from heatstroke. @josh.candelaria.98/Facebook The owner of the car and dog, however, did not see it that way. A fight later broke out between Williams-Frangie and the woman who didn’t consider this break-in a rescue. Another witness, Joshua Candelaria, uploaded a video of the confrontation to Facebook, describing what had happened first: “[William-Frangie] opened a door and gave the dog water as he was…

Keith Gilbert, an 81-year-old disabled veteran, was loading his dogs into his car when his new service dog Rivka, aka “Mouse,” got spooked and ran into the road. The German Shepherd was then struck by a car going about 40 mph in a residential zone. Seeing your dog get hit by a car is a truly horrifying experience. Gilbert and his daughter Denise also worried Mouse might have a broken back due to the position she was lying in after being struck. via GoFundMe An emotional Gilbert later told King 5 News: “I thought she was a goner, I really did.” Dog Lovers And Firefighters To The Rescue Luckily, Natalie Luke and David Crump happened to be nearby at the time of the accident. They saw the car hit Rivka, and immediately pulled over to help. Luke explained her decision: “It’s every dog owner’s worst nightmare. I saw the dog…

My current adventures have brought me to the beautiful country of Thailand, where I have been graced with the introduction to so many passionate animal welfare organizations. My travels have opened my eyes to so many impressive efforts that I just wouldn’t have known of otherwise, and I’m on a mission to share their life-changing work with you! First up, the beautiful island of Phuket! A dog shelter in Phuket, Thailand is going above and beyond to rescue the many sick or injured dogs that roam their streets. The understanding of animal welfare in Thailand has drastically improved over the years, but there are still so many pups that need saving. Thankfully for these furry friends, the Bodhi Dog Rescue and Shelter is dedicated to doing just that! The Bodhi Dog Shelter is nestled within the grounds of a sacred temple, housing over 200 dogs with painful pasts. Their efforts…

Nearly 90 Dogs Rescued From Vicious Interstate Dog Fighting Ring

By Kristen Warfield | August 11, 2021

The largest-ever dog fighting ring in Suffolk County, Long Island history has been busted this week — and now nearly 90 dogs will hopefully be going on to find the loving homes they deserve.  The interstate operation spanned throughout Long Island, New York City, Connecticut, and Massachusetts and involved 89 dogs. Detectives infiltrated the ring from the inside to help bring it down.  According to Suffolk County district attorney Tim Sini, the suspects involved talked about how they would torture and mistreat the dogs, including using electrocution when certain dogs would lose fights.  Image: Screenshot via ABC 7 Authorities seized money, kennels, and treadmills that were used in the ring, as well as steroids — which were presumably used on some of the dogs.  All 10 suspects plead not guilty, claiming that they were just breeding the dogs. That, clearly, was not the case, according to Sini.  “We will not…

Is Fostering Dogs Right For You? Here’s What You Need To Know!

By Molly Weinfurter | August 11, 2021

“Wow, I could never do that,” is one of the most frequent responses foster dog parents hear when they mention that they foster dogs. It’s common for people to applaud the selfless efforts of foster parents, and we appreciate the praise. But there’s one thing that’s much more helpful than thanking fosters and volunteers: helping in any way that you can. Fostering isn’t always easy, but it’s more uplifting and fulfilling than anything else. Yet, many families don’t even consider it because they have too many worries and assumptions about it. Anyone who wants to save dogs in need should try fostering, even if they only do it once. If you’re intrigued by the idea of making this world a better place for dogs, then here’s everything you need to know about fostering. Image: @maddiesfund/Facebook What is it Like to Foster Dogs? Fostering is different for every family and every…
